Fort Lewis Roundabout
Durango, CO

As the primary entrance to Fort Lewis College, the landmark showcases three stone sculptures of Native American faces (child, woman and grandfather). The design is a celebration and tribute to the culture, history, and geology of southwest Colorado. Shapes and symbols used in Native American art, blankets, pottery, and architecture can be seen throughout the design. The sloping and spiraling walls mimic the the skyline of the Animas Mountain in the backdrop and the planting plan uses xeric and native plants indigenous to Durango. The roundabout design conforms to safe sight distances for drivers and pedestrians alike.
